Heart & Soul Newsletter — August 2025

Purpose, Community, and Meaningful Impact at PDI
August was a powerful month at Pueblo Diversified Industries, marked by purpose-driven work, meaningful recognition, and heartfelt moments that reflect the strength of our community. The August 2025 edition of Heart & Soul highlights the people, programs, and values that continue to guide our mission forward.
Purpose-Driven Work Through AbilityOne
At the heart of PDI’s mission is meaningful employment. Through participation in the AbilityOne Program, PDI provides competitive, integrated jobs that support individuals with diverse abilities while delivering essential services through government contracts.
From custodial services at Fort Carson to warehouse operations, these roles offer more than employment. They provide stability, excellent pay, full benefits, and the dignity that comes from purposeful work. PDI remains one of the largest employers of people with disabilities in Southern Colorado, and its role within AbilityOne continues to break down barriers while building opportunity, confidence, and upward mobility.
Recognizing Dedicated Team Members
Meet Our Staff: Ken
This month’s staff spotlight recognizes Ken Taylor, a valued member of the Pathways Café team. Known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and positive attitude, Ken brings energy and warmth to every shift. Whether supporting a busy lunch service or lending a helping hand to coworkers, he helps make the café feel like home. Outside of work, Ken enjoys fishing and time by the water.
PDI Super Star: Lanae
Lanae exemplifies leadership through service. Currently working on a federal contract at Fort Carson through the AbilityOne Program, she brings dedication, attention to detail, and a team-first mindset to everything she does. Her kindness and willingness to step up whenever needed have made a lasting impact across programs and the broader community.
Celebrating Birthdays and Anniversaries
August was also a time to celebrate milestones across PDI. Team members from leadership, nursing, residential services, community engagement, and program teams were recognized for birthdays and work anniversaries, honoring the people who make PDI a supportive and thriving organization.
Forever in Our Hearts
This edition also honors the lives of cherished members of the PDI family.
Raylene Clason, a part of PDI for nearly five decades, is remembered for her dedication, consistency, and welcoming presence. Her commitment to structure, volunteering, and community will always be part of PDI’s story.
Rudy Okorn is remembered for his compassionate spirit and the loving home he created alongside his wife Audrey as a Host Home provider. His legacy lives on through the joy, stability, and meaningful experiences he shared with others.
Mendy Stephens, a member of the Fort Carson custodial team, is remembered fondly for the impact she made during her time with PDI. Our thoughts remain with her family and loved ones.
Looking Ahead: Community Events
August also brought excitement for upcoming opportunities to connect, including the Exceptional Rodeo, Dancing with the Pueblo Starz, and the Supported Decision-Making Summit. These events reflect PDI’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, advocacy, and community engagement.
Continuing the Journey Together
As summer came to a close, August served as a reminder of the power of purpose, the importance of community, and the impact of compassionate work. PDI remains deeply grateful to everyone who supports its mission and helps create opportunities that strengthen lives and build a more inclusive future.
