Heart & Soul Newsletter — July 2025

Celebrating Inclusion, Growth, and Community at PDI
July is a time of reflection, unity, and shared values, and at Pueblo Diversified Industries, it’s also a moment to celebrate the people and purpose that drive our mission forward. The July 2025 edition of Heart & Soul highlights meaningful milestones, new initiatives, and the individuals who make PDI a place of belonging and opportunity.
A Month Rooted in Gratitude and Purpose
At PDI, every day is shaped by the dedication of staff, the compassion of caregivers and providers, and the courage and joy of the individuals we serve. July offered an opportunity to pause and express gratitude to everyone who contributes to the PDI community, whether through leadership, partnership, or daily acts of care.
This season also marked an exciting shift in how PDI celebrates together. Rather than hosting the traditional annual BBQ, PDI introduced a new tradition: IDD Awareness Day at the Pueblo Zoo. This public celebration focused on visibility, inclusion, and shared joy, creating space for the broader community to engage with and better understand the IDD community. It was a meaningful step toward expanding connection and reinforcing the belief that everyone belongs.
Meet Our Team: People Who Make a Difference
Staff Spotlight: Matt
Matt Hansen joined PDI as Human Resources Coordinator and quickly became an integral part of the team. Though much of his work happens behind the scenes, his role ensures smooth operations and strong support for staff across the organization. Inspired by the individuals PDI serves, Matt brings patience, gratitude, and a people-first mindset to his work. His belief in inclusion centers on creating environments where everyone feels respected, valued, and heard.
PDI Super Star: Angel
Angel is a shining example of dedication and positivity. As part of a janitorial team supported by PDI vocational services, Angel is known for his strong work ethic, kindness, and welcoming spirit. His enthusiasm carries beyond the workplace, fueled by his love for creative hobbies, caring for his pets, and spending time with friends. Angel’s dream of working in a movie theater reflects his determination and optimism, qualities that inspire those around him every day.
Honoring Milestones: Birthdays and Anniversaries
July also brought moments of celebration as PDI recognized team members across leadership, nursing, residential services, and program departments for their birthdays and work anniversaries. These milestones honor the people whose commitment and service continue to strengthen the organization.
Safety and Growth: Important Updates at PDI
AEDs Now Available Onsite
PDI took an important step in prioritizing health and safety by installing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at its facilities. Staff members have been trained to use these life-saving devices, ensuring preparedness in the event of a cardiac emergency and reinforcing PDI’s commitment to community well-being.
Fresh Greens Colorado Update
July also marked the close of an important chapter as Fresh Greens Colorado paused lettuce production at the end of June. This initiative represented years of growth, innovation, and community support. While production has paused, the mission and future vision continue to evolve, with new opportunities on the horizon.
PDI Expands Services with Community First Choice
A major milestone in July was the official launch of Community First Choice (CFC) services at PDI. With active Class B licensure, PDI now offers expanded in-home and community-based supports through Colorado’s Medicaid program.
CFC services provide personalized assistance with daily living tasks such as personal care, meal preparation, mobility, and accompaniment to community activities. This expansion strengthens PDI’s ability to support independence, dignity, and choice, empowering individuals to live safely and confidently in their homes and communities.
Moving Forward Together
July 2025 was a powerful reminder of what makes PDI special: people, purpose, and progress. From celebrating inclusion in public spaces to expanding essential services and honoring the everyday contributions of staff and individuals served, PDI continues to build a future rooted in opportunity and belonging.
Thank you to everyone who is part of this journey and helps shape a stronger, more inclusive community.
